Remembrance Sunday Parades Perth 2014

Pictures here of the Remembrance Sunday parades through Perth this year. First of all there was the parade with a number of war veterans, army, navy and air force cadets who were joined in the parade this year by local brownie and guides. Following this there was the parade of councilors, provost and Lord Lieutenant, led as per usual by the Perth and District Pipe Band and flanked by the Society of High Constables. Following a service of remembrance in St John's Kirk, the parade with veterans and cadets took the salute at the bottom of the High Street as they paraded to the North Inch.

Perth College UHI Graduation Parade

Pictures here of the Perth College Graduation Parade through Perth City Centre on 3rd October 2010. The parade was led by the Perth and District Pipe Band, the Provost and a small contingent of the Society of High Constables.

Water rescue teams have rushed to Perth after a man was seen jumping from Queen’s Bridge.

Crews from the Scottish Fire and rescue Service were called at around 3.20pm on Tuesday to carry out a rescue on the Tay. Two appliances from Perth, along with the Technical / Water Rescue Unit were turned out. 

A male casualty was taken by ambulance to hospital. The incident is understood to be non-suspicious.

Pictures taken shortly after 3.35 as crews stood down. It was also around this time that the ambulance arrived on scene.

Belle Premiere At Perth Playhouse

Pictures here from the Perth Playhouse cinema as guests arrived for the Scottish Premiere of the film, Belle. The majority of the photos are of the Lord and Lady Stormont, and Master of Stormont with director, Amma Assante.

The film, which stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Tom Wilkinson and Miranda Richardson, tells the story of the mixed race daughter of a slave and a British admiral.  The only Dido Belle portrait known to exist hangs in the Ambassador’s Room at Scone Palace, which is currently running an exhibition entitled ‘Dido Belle – Her Story’ to coincide with the film’s release.

Amma Assante said: “I am extremely happy to be attending the Scottish premiere of this film at the invitation of Lord and Lady Stormont and the Hon William Murray. I am honoured to be visiting Perth, Lord Mansfield’s birthplace, and home of the extraordinary painting that inspired me to make this film.”

Dido Belle was born in the 18th Century to Sir John Lindsay, nephew of the 1st Earl of Mansfield, and the African slave Maria Belle. She was brought up under the care and protection of the 1st Earl of Mansfield, who was the Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales and whose family home was at Scone Palace.

The Hon William Murray, Master of Stormont and grandson of the current Earl of Mansfield, said: “We are tremendously excited that the film is premiering here in Perth and hope that the interest in the film, both nationally and internationally, will bring a boost to Scottish Tourism.”

Kirkin' of the Council 2014

Pictures here from the annual Kirkin' of the Council parade through Perth. As usual, the parade of councillors, with the Provost, Council Chief Executive and Lord Dean of the Guild at the front were led to St John's Kirk by the Perth and District Pipe band and flanked on each side by the Society of High Constables of Perth.

Earl and Countess of Strathearn Visit To Crieff

Pictures here as the Earl and Countess of Strathearn (the Scottish titles for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) visiting the Strathearn Community Campus in Crieff.

On arrival the royal couple were introduced to Perth and Kinross Provost, Liz Grant, by the Lord Lieutenant of Perth and Kinross, Mel Jameson.

The Earl, spoke with members of the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance based at Perth and then spoke with members of the Air Training Corps, the Sea Cadets, the Black Watch Army Cadets and the Boys' Brigade.

The Countess spent most of her time speaking to young members of the Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and was also presented with flowers by some of the school children.

Following their visit to the school, they also visited the Glenturret distillery and unveiled a plaque in MacRosty Park before heading to Forteviot Fete.

Perth & District Boys Brigade Parade Through Perth

Pictures here of the Perth & District Battalion Boys Brigade parading through Perth as part of the 130th Anniversary of the Boys Brigade celebrations. Following a knowledge hunt around the city, the boys then paraded from the North Church down the High Street to Perth Concert Hall where a civic reception was held. Provost Liz Grant both started the knowledge hunt and then addressed the boys and officers at the concert hall.
