North Inch, Perth Diamond Jubilee Celebrations

Pictures here from Perth's North Inch, the place where Perth would celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee with 'The Big Lunch', where people from the surrounding area were invited to bring picnics, or enjoy the food on offer from local providers. There were also sporting events, and musical performances. The very well attended event was capped off by a fly-past from a replica Spitfire. You will see the Kilt Run pictures in a separate collection.

1000 Pipers Parade Perth

As part of the Diamond Jubliee celebrations, Perth saw a parade of just over 1000 pipers parade thru the town, and perform on mass on the North Inch. This parade saw pipers and drummers from across the globe from Australia, Canada, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Ireland, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland, Scotland and the USA. These pictures were as the parade came down Perth's High Street which was lined 3 or 4 deep in places. Joining them were over 800 children and young people from youth organisations around Perth and Kinross, including Scouts, Guides, Beavers, Brownies, Cubs and Rainbows, parading with Diamond Jubilee flags.

Perth Kilt Run

A large collection of pictures of the Perth Kilt Run, which narrowly failed in setting a new Guiness World Record, currently held by Perth, Ontario. These pictures were taken from the footbridge to Moncreiffe Island as the runners come along Perth's Tay street with the River Tay, Queens Bridge and Perth Bridge on one side, and the Sheriff Court and St Matthews Kirk on the other.

Page 14 onwards has pictures of the runners as they came back from the South Inch. Pictures of the winners on the stage can be found in the North Inch collection

First place went to Neilson Hall in a time of 24 minutes and 55 seconds, Jack Goodwin second: 25:44 and Matt Janes third: 26:24
