Anti-Windfarm / Anti-SNP Windfarm Policy Protest March - Perth

Pictures here from a protest march through Perth and demonstration outside Perth's Horsecross Concert Hall where the SNP were holding their annual conference.

The protest was against windfarms and the SNP windfarm policy. Organised by the East Fife Turbine Awareness Group, it saw members of other groups with similar views from across Scotland join in.

The group formed at the South Inch and marched through the heart of Perth along Princess Street, St John Street, High Street and George Street before reaching the concert hall.

As part of their efforts, a red airship was flown above Perth's North Inch to demonstrate the height of a turbine.

The link to the full collection follows the pictures.

I am not affiliated to any of the groups involved.

Full collection of pictures from the protest can be seen here.

Pictures here from a couple hours in Dunkeld on a sunny autumn afternoon. There are a few pictures taken from around the small town and down on the banks of the River Tay.

There are also pictures of Dunkeld Cathedral, part of which dates back to the 13th and 14th centuries. Part of the cathedral was destroyed in the 16th Century reformation and is now part of a Historic Scotland restoration project.

Starry Sky & Milky Way over Sma' Glen

Pictures from the Sma' Glen in Perthshire looking out into the Galaxy. With its remote location, and no light pollution, it is a perfect place for photographing the night sky. You can see this from how visible the Milky Way is.

Pictures here from a night in early October where for one night, Jupiter was positioned above the moon in the night sky. These pictures were taken from my garden in Perth.

Greyfriars Cemetery Perth

Pictures from Perth's historic Greyfriars Cemetery. Greyfriars opened in 1580 on the site of a destroyed monestary, as the site at St John's Kirk became full, and, while most burials since 1849 took place in Wellshill, the final burial took place as late as 1978. Greyfriars was itself expanded in 1795 and 1820, and restored between 1999 and 2001 by Perth and Kinross Council.

As part of this restoration, a number of the more significant headstones were moved to under a canopy at the rear of the graveyard. The oldest of these stones dates back to 1580 when Greyfriars opened, however many stones of the 16th and 17th centuries were lost when Cromwell took them for use in building his citadel on the South Inch.

Many of the stones have intricate decorations / artwork on them which depicts the occupation of the person interred. While some stones have succumb to the weather over the centuries, many still remain in tact with the epitaphs still easily readable.

Greyfriars is open to the public daily between 10am-4pm and 12pm-4pm on Sundays.
