Remembrance Sunday Parades Perth 2011

Pictures here of the Remembrance Sunday Parades through Perth.

The first parade saw Perth and Kinross Council officials led by the Perth and District Pipe Band and flanked by the High Constables of Perth.

Once they had paraded back from St John's Kirk, The Provost, John Hulbert along with officials from local branches of the armed forces and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant took the salute from Veterans and local branches the cadet forces.

Remembrance Day Perth 2011 - Wreath Laying Ceremony

Wreaths were laid by Provost John Hulbert, MP Pete Wishart and MSP Roseanna Cunningham along with representatives from Tayside Fire and Rescue, Tayside Police and local military organisations

2011 Perth Bonfire Night

This year's Perth Bonfire Night had one of the best displays seen in a number of years.

The event was again organised by the Perth Strathearn 200 Round Table who collected £8100 in donations. The fireworks were the work of 21cc. In addition there was also a small funfair presented on the ground.

SK Boxing Promotions Event - Salutation Hotel Perth 28th May 2011

Perth and Kinross Kirking of the Council 2011

The procession of councillors, flanked by the High Constables of Perth was led as usual by the Perth & District Pipe Band.

Following the church service a ceremony was held to instate a Piper to the City of Perth, in this case pipe major Alistair Duthie as reconition of the service the pipe band has given the city of Perth for over 120 years.

In addition the Provost was re-instated as the patron of the band, a tradition that had been lost following local authority re-organisation in 1975.

Perth and Kinross Chief Executive Bernadette Malone installed the pipe major as the Piper to the City, whilst the Provost John Hulbert attached a banner to the drone of the Pipe Major another sign or recongition of the role the band as a whole has played historically.

Great Britain III Steam Tour at Perth

Pictures of the Great Britain III Steam Tour at Perth.

Firstly, 70013 'Oliver Cromwell' heading north via Dundee and Aberdeen to Inverness. Later that day is 61994 'The Great Marquess' heading to Inverness.

Then both are together as they head south from Inverness arriving into Perth before running back to Dundee.

Perth College Fire

Pictures from the scene of a fire at Perth College. The fire was in an old halls of residence block and was contained there.

Tayside Fire and Rescue turned out three engines from Perth, including the aerial ladder platform, a rescue pump from Dunkeld, a water tender ladder from Auchterarder and the Command Support Unit from Dundee.

New Site

I've started this blog as a way of promoting updates to my main photo site.

However, at the moment my main photo site, fotopic looks to be down - permanently.

Therefore I am looking at a couple other options for where to host photos. I am going to have some on my flickr account, but its not the most pleasing on the eye, so will look to have a couple test galleries and see what one I like best in terms of looks and more importantly features.

Even if Fotopic does come back I am going to move away from it as the service now has just become too unreliable, which is unfortunate as since 2005 its been my way of sharing pictures.

Holden's Scrapyard Fire

Pictures here of the huge fire at the Holden's Environmental Scrapyard in Perth.

Appliances from all across Tayside attended - Perth, Kinross, Auchterarder, Crieff, Dunkeld, Pitlochry, Coupar Angus, Blairgowrie and Dundee attended. In addition the Foam Salvage, Envrionmental Protection and Command Support Units were all on site.

Grampian Hotel Fire

Pictures here of the fire at Perth's Grampian Hotel.

The fire was confined to a room at the front of the hotel, the cause believed to be a faulty electrical appliance.

Appliances from Perth, Dunkeld and the Command Support Unit from Dundee turned out.

Prince Charles Visit To Perth

Prince Charles paid a visit to Perth in June of 2010 as part of the Perth 800 Celebrations.

He is seen arriving at Perth Station and then again attending a special Farmer's Market in Perth's King Edward Street.
